Decorating Your Kitchen Island
There are many different kitchen islands that a homeowner can choose from. Remember, not every kitchen island is going to be decorated and used in the same manner. Some islands are intended primarily for storing items underneath; on the other hand, other may need some more style added to them. Following are some great decorating tips to consider for your kitchen island.
Turn the Kitchen Island into a Sitting Area
Depending on its size, a kitchen island makes a great sitting area for the family. By simply adding a few stools and clearing off the top of it, you can create a place for the family to sit around and enjoy meals together. This is a great alternative, particularly if you only have a formal wood dining table in the house and no kitchen table. When used in this way, a kitchen island offers a convenient space that can be utilized in the best way possible. To add even more style to the room, try setting the island with placemats.
Add an Appliance to the KitchenIsland
It may not seem much like decorating to place an appliance on your kitchen island, but this serves as both a functional and decorative way to store a great appliance that you may already own. Don’t just stick any old appliance out on the counter area. Rather, a fancy stainless steel toaster or blender will be sure to add to the décor. If you decide to decorate with an appliance, you do need to be sure that the island has outlets (or that there is at least one accessible nearby).
Decorate the Kitchen Island with Kitchen Utensils and Products
Along the same lines as the appliances, you can decorate your kitchen island with utensils or other products. Again, don’t just use any old kitchen products on the counter. Rather, add things like a spice rack or decorative containers and baskets to your kitchen island. Or you might consider other items such as canisters of dried goods (like sugar and flour) or napkin or paper towel holders. Just be sure not to throw everything on the island counter and use it as a catch-all. Remember, you still want to keep it neatly organized.
Decorate the Kitchen Island with Flowers
Are you stumped as to what to do with your kitchen island? Try a nice vase or basket of flowers? Although fresh flowers are more appealing than fake ones, remember that they’ll need to be replaced every few days. A nice houseplant will also look great on your kitchen island.
When decorating, you need to attend to the kitchen island just like any other area in the room. When you leave an island completely empty on top, it tend to be boring and may even bring down the look of the kitchen. Rather, try to utilize the space you have, as in the end you will make your kitchen look more appealing.
